Explain the two most important points in basic karate training.

① Keep your eyes straight

② Listen to commands, reacts, and unleash technique

~Here’s the text~

In karate training, basic practice is done at the beginning. The same goes for my karate style.
I will describe the most important points in this basic practice.
Technique form, speed, power, naturally these are also important.
This time, it is a really simple point to note from the instructor’s point of view, but I will explain only two points that many people surprisingly do not do.
If these two are made and not made, a big difference will be born in kumite.

Keep your eyes straight

It is important to always assume that the opponent is in front of you (sideways in the case of a side kick) and perform a technique.

For that reason, it is essential that the line of sight is in front of the opponent.

For the time being, this alone is fine, but let’s go into a little more about the line of sight.

I wrote “straight”, but to be precise, it is to look around the area where the technique can be strike.

To look at only the hitting point from a narrow perspective (for example, pit of the stomac aiming with middle punch, etc) is not.

During practice of “Yakusoku Kumite” and “Kumite”, I sometimes instruct advanced players to do “Enzan no Metsuke”.

“Enzan no Metsuke” is a method of looking at the whole (looking at a distant mountain) instead of looking at the opponent’s technique (partially) in kumite, and is the way to use eyes in swordsmanship.

If you can get this feeling, your ability to judge techniques will improve dramatically.

Listen to commands, reacts, and unleash technique

Listening to the command and reacting to it immediately and unleashing a technique may seem obvious, but what you want to be aware of here is the reaction speed.

When you listen the command and perform the technique immediately, you can train your concentration and reflex speed.

If you listen to the command and train your reflex speed, you can get the speed of the initial movement.

The initial movement is “the start of the technique”.

No matter how much speed and power you have,If your opponent reads your technique, it won’t hit, and even if it hits, it won’t damage.

In “Grappler Baki Volume 8”, attack of muscular doctor, which has perfect power and speed, have a preliminary moveme, and Baki misses vital points little by little and take no damege.

This is exactly the situation.

From the opposite point of view (the side being attacked), it becomes important how to judge the initial movement.

Summary

This time, I focused on two important points in basic practice.

① Keep your eyes straight

② Listen to commands, reacts, and unleash technique

It’s not a difficult story, but it’s often not done surprisingly.

Karate techniques cultivated through basic prqactice are not just forms.

In order to be able to use it smoothly in Kumite, I think that we should hold down these 2 points.

Below is a reference video (DVD) of the basic practice.

I would appreciate it if you could help me with the above.
