Learn the timing (= impact) to concentrate power

~Here’s the text~

In general full contact karate training, basic training is done at the beginning. This is also the karate style I belong to.
I will describe my view on the meaning of doing this basic practice.
Leaving aside the details, there are three big things.

Input karate movements into the body

I think this is common in all sports and martial arts.
The form may be slightly different for each karate style, but the purpose is to instill the technique of attack and defense into the body.

In my karate style, there are the pigeon-toe stance, horseback stance, front-leanning stance, parallel stance, and heels-together stance.
There are 5 ways to stand during basic practice. It is a karate technique that includes standing and posture.
I think that “to instill the technique into the body” is a state where the body can react and move before thinking with the head.

Excerpt of Bruce Lee’s lines in the movie “Enter the Dragon”.

“Don’t think, feel!”

refers to this state.

Understand how to use your body correctly

As a specific usage, it is the twist of the axis, the tention of the technique, and stretch where you stretch.
These are the sources of the power of the technique. The twist of the axis is primarily the hips turning.
When you investigate thoroughly these, the range of motion of the body becomes important, and strech exercises become a must.

Learn the timing (= impact) to concentrate power

In particular, “impact” is important for the power of full-con karate techniques.

Impact is the momentary timing and position to concentrate power.

In order to produce destructive power, it is essential that the impact match.

This is a concept that becomes important not only in damaging strikes, but also in techniques for breaking balance.

“Follow-through” as a pair with “Impact” are also important.

Follow-through is the trajectory of technique after impact.

Summary

This time, I explained three meanings (benefits) of the basic training of full contact karate.

①Input karate movements into the body

② Understand how to use your body correctly

③ Learn the timing (= impact) to concentrate power

Finally, I will introduce my favorite scenes from Volume 6 of “Grappler Baki”.

Orochi Doppo tells Baki the basic techniques of karate, such as front kicks and forefist punch, before striking.
Baki can’t be avoided (= can’t catch the the initial action).

Doppo says,

“For 50 years…, I have been practicing the basic technique I just showed you more than 1,000 times a day.Any fool who can do that can imitate like now. ”

The number of times is extreme, but the importance of basic practice sticks in my heart.

↓ In the Baki series, the first work “Grappler Baki”, a masterpiece of “diffrent martial arts” including karate.

I would appreciate it if you could help me with the above.
